The Path of Self-knowledge, Mental Health, and Love
A Sufi Meditation Experience
Dr. Saloumeh DeGood
November 10 | 2:00-4:00 pm | Childcare provided
The 2024 Fall Seminar will be more than a learning opportunity; it will be an experience of self-discovery! We will learn about and practice techniques that have been used for centuries in the Sufi tradition to help people become more connected to their own inner light, thereby becoming more whole, and better able to serve and love others.
The seminar will be led by Dr. Saloumeh DeGood, who is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist. In her practice, Dr. DeGood specializes in the Sufi Psychology paradigm, which draws upon the 1400-year-old history of Sufism. This approach emphasizes self-awareness and self-knowledge. It teaches clients to learn what they are experiencing, what they need, and how to provide it.
In addition to her therapy work, Dr. DeGood also directs wellness programs, including workshops and retreats, that teach stress reduction and combat burnout. Central to this work is the Tamarkoz® Sufi meditation method, which consists of evidence-based techniques to quiet the mind and bring all aspects of the being into harmony. The techniques include relaxation, breathing exercises, slow meditative movements, and visualization. During a Tamarkoz session, these are performed in progression fashion to facilitate a heart-centered state of awareness.
The benefits of this inner work are best learned through experience. Therefore, the seminar will consist of an introductory lecture by Dr. DeGood, followed by a live Tamarkoz session. Both parts will take place in the sanctuary, from 2-4 in the afternoon of November 10. The session will conclude with time for quiet reflection and journaling.
