Student Leader Spotlight: Alisha Thomas

FINDING HOME AT WESLEY: ALISHA THOMAS

For Alisha Thomas, the path to Wesley Foundation began with a family connection. Years ago, her aunt spent countless hours studying at the ETC Coffeehouse, planting the seeds for what would become Alisha's own transformative journey at the University of Illinois.

A native of Lockport, Illinois, Alisha is pursuing a double major in English and Political Science with a minor in Legal Studies. Her academic path reflects her diverse interests and ambitious goals - after taking a gap year to gain work experience, she plans to attend law school.

Building Community, One Coffee at a Time

When the ETC Coffeehouse opened during her freshman year, Alisha knew she had to check it out, following her aunt's enthusiastic recommendation. What she found was more than just a place to study - she discovered what she calls a "true home away from home."

"I absolutely LOVE the people," Alisha says about Midweek, Wesley's weekly dinner and worship experience. "Truly, no matter what my week has been like, I know I'll leave Midweek with something to smile about."

Her enthusiasm for building community is evident in how she talks about Wesley's growth. Recently, Midweek held a Christmas-themed gathering, filling the coffeehouse with warmth and celebration. Alisha takes particular joy in welcoming newcomers, noting how the structured format of Midweek gatherings helps foster meaningful connections and friendships.

Looking to the Future

As she looks ahead, Alisha is optimistic about Wesley's future. She's encouraged by the increasing number of "regulars" at both ETC and Wesley events, seeing it as a sign that the community will continue to thrive. Her vision includes expanding beyond weekly gatherings to include more informal social activities - from group outings to games and boba tea runs.
