Why Wesley?: Michael Drummond
Pastor Miriam asked me to speak today and introduce myself and talk a little about what Wesley has meant to me, and in particular: Why Wesley? She even asked if I could narrow it down to be one word or reason why I am at Wesley.
Well, let me start at the beginning. I originally came to Wesley because it was between my apartment and where I worked. I am beginning my third year as a graduate student in Chemistry this fall and the chemistry buildings are just a block down Goodwin, so the location was great. I was also drawn into the Church by the beautiful chapel that is campus adjacent. Once inside I found nothing but friendly faces and kind words from the parishioners and pastoral staff. So, if I have to narrow it down to one word that Wesley has become for me, it would be sactuary.
I adore the sanctuary that we are in right now and find it to be a beautiful place, but beyond just the building, Wesley has become a haven from the rigors of graduate school. I joined the graduate student/young adult book study that meets Tuesday nights (and let me make my pitch for it now!), and found a new group of comrades with whom I could discuss the workings of the Church and God, as well as how tired we all were.
Wesley has been a haven for me, and I hope if you’re new you’ll get involved by talking to Church members or the pastoral staff. Let me be one of the first to welcome you to Wesley
