When I was asked to respond to the question “Why Wesley,” the word that came into my mind was “faith.”

One of my favorite bible verses is Matthew 17:20, in which Jesus says, “…if you had faith even as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it would move. Nothing would be impossible.”

I sometimes wonder if I have a mustard seed of faith, because faith is never something that has come easily to me.

When I came out here to college, I found the Wesley Foundation. The Wesley Foundation has been many things to me – a home away from home, a community of friends, an employer, and a place for study to name a few. But more than that, it has shown me what it is like to have faith at the heart of all those things. What a blessing it is, to find a place where faith is the seed at the center of the community. And how amazing to see how faith empowers the people in this church.

I come to Wesley because I am inspired by the wonderful, intelligent teachers and mentors I find here. I come to Wesley because the Food Pantry and Illini Fighting Hunger are examples of how faith inspired service can move mountains of food. But mostly, I come to Wesley because it continually renews my faith – my faith in a loving God, and my faith that I can be his agent in the world. Thank you.
