The University of Illinois is home to a large population of international students and visiting scholars, and we want to help you feel at home! We offer a variety of programs to help international friends explore our community and make new connections. Wesley is a welcoming space to learn and grow, and a perfect place to share your experiences with others.
People from all over – currently China, Taiwan, Korea, Japan, Brazil, Spain, Iraq, Iran, Libya, Turkey, Argentina, Italy, Mexico, Bangladesh, Mongolia, Ecuador, Columbia, India, and more! – have participated in Wesley programs and events. There’s a place for you, too, so come and join us as we welcome the world!
Wesley offers a casual English class for beginning through advanced students every Friday during the semester from 3:00-4:00 p.m. It’s free and there’s no need to register – just join us in the conference room at Wesley! Each class explores different aspects of American culture, traditions, and people, including food and holidays. We also practice pronunciation and develop our listening and comprehension skills. Wesley’s ESL class is a fun place to learn and a great place to meet new friends!
The ESL class meets in the conference room every Friday from 3:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. and is followed by the International Coffeehouse.
Wesley’s ESL Class will resume August 30th for the Fall semester.
International Coffeehouse is a gathering of domestic and international students, visiting scholars, friends, and family members. Everyone is invited to join us as we enjoy coffee, snacks, and conversation as we practice English, play board games, and make new friends. It’s also a great place to learn about other countries, cultures and traditions. Where else can you go and experience the world sitting around your table?
International Coffeehouse is held every Friday during the academic semester from 4:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. in the Etc. Coffeehouse. International Coffeehouse resumes for the 2018 Fall semester on Friday, August 30th.
