Wesley celebrates all of the international persons who come to Champaign Urbana whether for a few months or for many years. You are welcome at ANY activity at Wesley and you will be greeted by persons who are so glad you have come. We know it can be hard to leave family, to move to a new culture and to learn a new language. For over 100 years, Wesley has been providing programs and assistance for International students. For many, Wesley becomes a “home away from home.”
In addition to our standard programs, Wesley also provides activities designed specifically for International Persons. They are designed to help you make friends, to adjust to American culture and to practice your English. Spouses, children and non-English speakers are also welcome.
Make sure to sign up for our International E-Newsletter.

Wesley Families are encouraged to bring two food dishes to share, and singles one dish.
Students and visitors don’t need to bring anything.
(Except maybe a friend or two!)
We hope to see you there after the 11:15 worship service!
The New England Patriots will be playing the New York Giants in Super Bowl XLVI in two weeks. We will be having our annual Super Bowl Party with a chili cook off starting at 5pm on Sunday, February 5th in Watseka Lounge. We will be projecting the football game (and commercials!) on the big screen. Come root for your favorite team!
If you like chili, be sure to come to come for our chili cook off. If you would like to enter the competition, bring your own pot of chili to share. The winner of the cook off will receive a gift card to Chili’s restaurant as well as the Chili Cook Off Champion Apron. If you do not bring chili, please bring a snack to share.
On Wednesday, January 25th at 9pm, the Wesley Foundation’s regular Midweek worship service will be having what we call Doubt Night. We have invited guest speakers to come in and answer any questions you may have about faith, the Bible, or anything else. The questions are submitted anonymously, so you don’t have to worry about what other people might think. This is a great opportunity to invite your friends to Wesley and get all of your questions answered.
Prior to Doubt Night, we will be having a free spaghetti dinner, open to all students, at 8pm in the Great Hall. Dinner will include spaghetti, meat and non-meat sauce, garlic bread, and salad.
We hope to see you for dinner and that you will stick around to get your questions answered!
As a thank you to all who help out with all we do at Wesley, we are having an All-Wesley Cookout and Game night this Saturday night, starting at 6pm for all students involved in all parts of our ministry. There will be a fire in the Lamb Courtyard for hot dogs and s’mores throughout the night. Various games and activities (including the ever-popular telephone pictionary and Apples to Apples!) will be set up in Watseka Lounge, and The Incredibles will be playing in the Student Lounge. Come and hang out with other Wesley students and volunteers for a night of good friends, good food, and good fun!
From now until the end of the semester, Pastor Rob’s Famous Bible Stories Study will be looking at Christmas stories of the birth of Jesus. They meet on Friday afternoons at 2:30 in Etc. Coffeehouse.
“Secure Communities” is a federal program implemented in 2008 that allows state and local law enforcement to run fingerprints of detainees through immigration databases, which notify Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) even if the individual has not been convicted of a crime. ICE can then issue a detainer so that the jail holds the individual for 48 hours while ICE begins the deportation process.
The implementation of “Secure Communities” has negatively affected communities across the country. Champaign-Urbana is no exception. Although “Secure Communities” was advertised as an initiative to catch and deport serious and repeat criminals, it has instead led to the detainment and deportation of many non-criminal immigrants in our community. In fact, locally, over 70% of those arrested, detained, and deported are non-criminal immigrant neighbors in Champaign and Urbana.
On Thursday, December 1st at 7pm in the Champaign Public Library (200 W. Green Street, Champaign), the Champaign-Urbana Immigration Forum will host an event to discuss the realities of “Secure Communities” in Champaign County. Speakers will provide context on the program and its implementation as well as launch a report with detailed information regarding “Secure Communities” in Champaign County. Moreover, individuals with firsthand experience of “Secure Communities” enforcement in Champaign-Urbana will share their stories. Questions and comments from community members are encouraged.
We have created a brand new Facebook page! On the page, you can meet our Peer Ministers, get to know other students involved in our ministry, and find out about the events going on at Wesley. Be sure to ‘Like’ the page to stay up to date with what’s going on.

This Sunday in worship we will be celebrating All Saints Day. It is a time when we remember those people in our lives that have gone before us. You will have an opportunity to light a candle to remember those who have passed away.
