Welcome to Wesley

Wesley Students

The Wesley Foundation at the University of Illinois strives to be a place where all persons are warmly welcomed and encouraged to shine in their own unique way. Some say we challenge them in their faith. For others, we are a great place to meet great people. We are a home away from home, even for international students.(Weekly International Newsletter) Still others say we are a place of refuge in the storms of life. We try to provide an environment that nutures growth through worship, study, and service.

Our ministry is conveniently located on campus, on the corner of Goodwin and Green 1 block East of Illini Union

Worship with Wesley Church

sanctuarySun. 9:30 am Traditional Worship
A wonderful worship experience grounded in our historic traditions. Trumpets, organ, choir, formal liturgy and meaningful sermons help shape this service. Students actively participate in all areas in this service .

Sun. 11:15 am Contemporary Worship

Engaging music, message, guitars, drums, keyboard and praise choir help set the stage for this wonderfully spirit filled informal service.

Sun 1:00 pm Korean Language Worship

예수사랑 한인감리 교회

Wed 8:30 pm Midweek Student Worship

CommunionMidweek is an informal, student-led worship service that is a spiritual lift midway through the week. We have a great contemporary praise team that leads this time of praise, reflection, singing and praying.

In many ways, this service is the heart-beat of our student ministry. It's a great place to connect with others and to connect with God.

Remember that Midweek will be every Wed at 8:30 pm.

Bible Studies

This semester we will be offer these student studies to grow in your faith:

Sunday 12:30 Snack Lunch & Study or Service Project (Wesley Etc. Coffeehouse)

On Sundays after our contemporary service we will be having a snack lunch and a study about the tough questions people ask about their faith or a service project.

Sept 21st we start the tough questions. The Word of God, should we take it literally."

Tuesday 8:00 pm Graduate Study (Wesley Student Lounge)

This fall, the Graduate Bible Study will be following a Living the Good Life Together study called "Attentiveness: Being Present." The description reads, "Are you too busy for God? It sounds sacrilegious, but that's how many of us feel. In this study, authors Susan Pendleton Jones and L. Gregory Jones help us examine our busy lives and learn how to be present with ourselves, with each other, and with God." This is an interactive, participant-driven study that draws on Scripture, short videos, and group discussion.

The Grad Study meets Tuesday evenings from 8:30-10pm in the Student Lounge at the Wesley Foundation, and books are only $4 apiece.
All graduate students and "like-minded" persons are heartily welcomed.

Thursdays 6:00 pm Old Testament Study (Wesley West Lounge)

The church is offering a 24 week study on the old testament. College students are welcome to attend. The study is based off a video series by Professor Amy-Jill Levine of Vanderbilt University Divinity School. She combines historical-critical rigor, literary-critical sensitivity, and a frequent dash of humor. This is a great study for both new and experienced readers of the Old Testament. 6pm on Thursdays in Wesley's West Lounge.

Thursday 8:00 pm Women's Study (Lindsey Longs apartment)

A number of college women meet every week to grow in their faith and pray for each other. The women who participated in this study last year said it was one of the best parts of their week. Contact Lindsey for details and directions This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Friday 2:30 International Study (Wesley Etc. Coffeehouse)

A second chance to attend the Christianity in America Study

We will also be launching bible studies and reflection groups in area dorms.

LAR will be starting next week. If you are interested please contact Hannah for details and to share available meeting times. This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Service Opportunities

We take service very seriously at Wesley and usually offer two or three service oportunities each month. Some things to look for.

On the Second Sunday of each month we will have a light lunch after the contemporary service and then help with a mini service project somewhere near campus. In the past we have helped at Chunningham Children's Home, Women's Shelter, Watershed Cleanup, and Park Cleanups.

On the Third Thursday of each month Wesley's food pantry provides groceries for well over 400 persons. That's a lot of groceries to get out and put away and we always need help. Training for new volunteers starts at 4pm the day of the pantry.

In January between new years and the start of the semester, we will be taking a student mission team to Jamaica. Once you step off of the All Inclusive Resorts in this tropical paradise you encounter a population where many struggle with even basic needs. We will be helping to build a community center in Western Jamaica. Details coming soon!
