Welcome toe ETC Coffeeehouse

The Etc. is a very different kind of coffeehouse. We offer fair trade, donation based, brewed coffee & teas. We are a place to study and be. 
-All proceeds support Wesley Evening Food Pantry-

While many of our students are gone during the summer, we are grateful for all of those who stick around through this special season. WHILE WE WILL NOT BE HAVING OUR MIDWEEK STUDENT WORSHIP, we will have a wealth of other activities this summer. Including:-

Every Friday we host the International Coffeehouse from 4-6pm in the Etc.
International Coffeehouse

We provide free coffee, tea and snacks while we discuss everything from cultural holidays to everyday activities. We welcome you, your ideas, and your cultures as equals and you will find people hungry to learn more! It’s a great place to meet American and International friends, to practice speaking English and other foreign languages, to ask any of questions about living in the US. We also meet through the summer and host field trips.
The Etc. Coffeehouse will only be open on Friday’s through the summer.

 

Volunteers Needed for Wesley Evening Food Pantry – May 17, June 21, July 19 and August 16

We’re always looking for people interested in helping with our food pantry. We especially need help through these summer months as many students are gone.
We need help
Unloading the semi-truck the day before distribution (no training needed)
Distribution Thursday (1 hour training required)
Clean Up Thursday (no training needed)
You must sign up online for training and volunteering.

A family of undercover superheroes, while trying to live the quiet suburban life, are forced into action to save the world.
Wesley Foundation will have an outdoor viewing on the big screen on our Green Street front lawn.

Wesley Service Project Days – Etc. Renovation May 22, 23, 29, and 30
We will be renovating the Etc. entrance to the building, the Etc. foyer, the movie theater entrance, and numerous other items at the East end of our building. We need persons who can help paint, clean, scrap, minor electrical, light construction, be artistic or generally be encouraging.

We have the following work days scheduled and will add more as needed.
Tues May 22nd 3 – 5 pm
Wednesday May 23rd 3pm – 10pm
Tues May 29 3pm – 5pm
Wednesday May 30 3pm – 10pm
You don’t need to work the entire days. Come when you can. Leave when you must.
We should have most of the basic tools that you need but if you have work gloves or goggles that might be helpful.

Memorial Day – Cemetery and Nature Center Visit

On the Friday before Memorial Day (May 25) we will be meeting at the Etc. Coffeehouse and going to the Purves Nature Center, Busey Woods and Woodlawn Cemetery. We will learn about ways American honor their dead and also spend time learning about the local Midwestern wildlife and culture. Owl spotting guaranteed. This is a free trip between 4:00 pm and 6:30 pm.

 

Horse Back Riding June 2nd PLEASE NOTE THIS NEW DATE
Horseback RidingWe’ll be heading to Moraine View State Park close to Bloomington Illinois to go on a trail ride through the woods and fields of central Illinois. This is a fun ride for both beginner and experienced riders. 

We’ll also have time to spend on the trails and at the lake there at the park. Cost should be around $25 to $35. Bring a snack to share. 
We’ll meet at the Etc. Coffeehouse at and “car pool” the 45 minutes to get there. You must register on line for this trip by May 31st at

Amish Trip – June 16th
Horseback Riding

We will be going outside of Arcola Illinois to learn about the Amish culture and their simple religious lifestyle that avoids both electricity and gasoline engines. We’ll spend some time at an Amish farm and workshop and then enjoy a family meal. 
The cost of the trip is being negogiated but will probably be around $40 which will include dinner. Please register online by June 8th at this link:

Other Summer Trips to Sign Up For

Champaign City Tour June 9th

We will meet at 3:30pm at the Etc. Coffeehouse and then take the city bus to downtown Champaign. Jarod will lead a walking tour of some places to visit, shop and eat. As a “townie” he knows a lot about the history and the places that only locals know. We’ll end the night at a favorite restaurant. 
4th of July Picnic and Fireworks
We will have a potluck picnic cookout (at a location still to be determined) and then will go to Parkland College to watch the community fireworks.
Champaign County Fair July 20-28
The county fair will be in Urbana at the fairgrounds behind Carle Hospital July 20-28. We encourage you to explore this slice of Americana on your own or to join some Wesley people and explore the rides, games, food and prize winning, gardening, cooking and farm animals. Cost of admission varies on the day you go and the activities that you participate in. Details of our groups meeting days and time will be sent out in mid July. http://www.champaigncountyfair.cc/jos/

Urbana City Tour August 25th
We will meet at 3:30pm at the Etc. Coffeehouse and then take the city bus to downtown Urbana. Jarod will lead a walking tour of some places to visit, shop and eat. As a “townie” he knows a lot about the history and the places that only locals know. We’ll end the night at a favorite restaurant. Cost is what you buy, what you eat and a bus ticket. 

Canoe Life Vests

Labor Day Canoe Trip Monday Sept 3rd 8:00 am -6:00 pm
We will be meeting at the Wesley Foundation Monday morning at 8:00 am for an hour and a half car ride to Turkey Run State Park. Students from the Purdue Wesley Foundation will meet us there as we venture down the Sugar Creek, past beautiful sandstone walls. We will provide a picnic lunch half way through the trip. There is an optional hike at the end of the day. We should be home by 6 pm. $25 will cover all of your expenses.
